The Interview Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 13, 2026
Summary
The Interview does not collect your data. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your footage, recordings, transcripts, translations and release forms stay on your iPhone and are never sent to the developer. The developer does not run a server and cannot see or recover anything you create in the app.
What the app accesses, and why
| Access | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Photos library | To show, rate, transcribe and export your video clips | Read on the device only. The app never modifies or uploads your library. |
| Microphone | To record audio in the Live tab, and the sound of the proof video when a release is signed | Saved on the device until you export or delete it |
| Camera | To record a short front-camera video as proof when someone signs a release form | Saved on the device until you share or delete it |
| Speech recognition | For the live transcript in the Live tab | Processed on the device by Apple's speech framework |
| Files you import | Audio files and your own release-form PDFs | Copied into the app's storage on the device |
Processing on the device
Transcription uses the Whisper model running on your iPhone. Translation uses Apple's on-device Translation framework. AI Cut uses Apple Intelligence's on-device model and only reads the transcript text. None of these send your audio, video or transcripts to the developer.
Network connections
The app connects to the internet only for the following, and none of them include your media or transcripts:
- Transcription models. The first time you use a Whisper model, it is downloaded from Hugging Face (huggingface.co). As with any download, Hugging Face receives your IP address and basic request information. See the Hugging Face privacy policy.
- Place names. To label clips by where they were shot, the approximate coordinates already stored in your videos are sent to Apple's geocoding service, which returns a place name. See Apple's privacy policy.
- Language downloads. Translation and live-transcription languages are downloaded and managed by iOS from Apple.
- Purchases. Optional support purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. The developer receives no payment details and no personal information.
Release forms
Release forms, signatures, the details you enter (such as names and shoot locations) and proof videos are stored only on your device. They leave it only when you choose to share or export them. You are responsible for handling the interviewee's personal information in line with the laws that apply to your production.
Sharing and exports
When you export or share files (for example with AirDrop, Files or Mail), they go only where you send them, using Apple's standard share sheet. The developer is never a recipient.
Data retention and deletion
Everything the app stores remains on your device until you delete it in the app or delete the app, which removes all of it. Data may be included in your own iCloud or computer backups of your iPhone, under your control. Because the developer holds no copy of your data, there is nothing for the developer to access, hand over or delete.
Children's privacy
The app does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
